 Bala overflows with history. A lakeside town on the shores of Wales' longest natural lake. Bala prides itself as 'Gateway to the Snowdonia National Park' and is a natural touring centre for the North and Mid Wales. 

Activities in and around BALA

The Bala region is brimming with outdoor activities. It was the location for the World Canoeing championships on the challenging River Tryweryn, at the excellent centre you can book a white-water rafting experience! 

Bala Lake has a sailing club (See list below for link) and a waterborne activities centre (see below for link to Bala Adventure and Watersports Centre) . People come from far and wide to use the lake for windsurfing etc. Bala also boasts a world-class white-water canoeing and rafting centre on the River Tryweryn. The River Dee is famous for fly fishing and there are opportunities for shooting game or clays. Walking is probably the most popular activity and little wonder with the wealth of beautiful countryside that abounds. Mountain climbing is also available nearby. For those who want to try out their 4-wheel drive machines, (LANDCRAFT Off Road Tuition & Driving Centres) there are excellent courses available from Bala. The Tourist Information Centre is located at the Lake-shore and has all the information you will need to find the activities you require, or maybe you will find new ones to challenge you. We will endeavour to assist you in finding training courses and to book activities in advance for you, however we do ask for as much notice as possible.

Scenic Railway
Steam enthusiasts must be sure to take a trip on the Bala Lake Narrow Gauge Railway.

Golf
Bala has it's own nine hole golf course set in scenic surroundings. Very favourable concessionary terms are available to our residents.

Walking
There are many fine walks in the Bala area including treks on the Berwyn and Aran Mountains. Advice on local walks on request.

Fishing
Local fishermen can be contacted for advice and tips.

Nearby there are slate caverns, woollen mills, castles, museums and many other tourist attractions to visit.
